Wordpress responsive design website launched - new business in Scotland

Responsive web design is here to stay, as more and more people use phones to surf the net and check businesses and services.

Making sure your site works on all devices is essential and I've got loads of experience building sites from scratch, or re-engineering older sites to ensure they function correctly for mobile visitors. Clients seem to love the content management system Wordpress, as it is easy to administer, add new pages or simply edit existing content. And for most brochure style websites that is the perfect solution.

Recently, a new start up business based in Scotland, contacted me to design and build a new site for their business Climb Work Safety. As the name suggests they provide advice, expertise and accedited courses related to companies who have employees who work at heights. And they have 20 years plus experience for those in the specialist rescue course industries market

The brief included the ability to be viewed on a wide variety of devices - responsive - and also to detail their wide range of courses in a way that made it easy to navigate and importantly easy for people to find via search engines. The courses they offer are fairly specific - so ensuring the site was built with SEO in mind, meant that in a short period of time, these pages ranked high and on page one of Google. For example, a business looking and searching for 'evacuation rope rescue courses'  or 'anchor bolt certification course' would find Climb Work Safety pretty easily - and hopefully this converts into new business for them.

In addition to establishing a sensible structure for these courses and a standard way of naming pages and URLS - with 'long-tails' - the design uses a large footer on all pages, with links to the individual pages - so they are just one click away from the home page - which Google seems to like ! Also this is dynamic, meaning as new courses are added to any section, the footer menu automatically updates, so less support time and costs getting me or another web designer to update the site.

Another element of their brief was the inclusion of some third party products that they offer - in particular technical information in the form of PDFs - we agreed that embedding them within the pages was the best way forward. This can be seen on their product page for a 'fixed wing anchor system' or their 'ISO fallstop climber' products.
