James Larkin Society of Liverpool march was themed this year for ‘working class unity against racism and fascism’. The march was subject of a great deal of controversy as various far-right groups have decided that it was an ‘IRA’ march. The James Larkin Society, led by the Liverpool Irish Patriots Republican Flute Band, gathered for the seventh occasion – this time outside the Globe pub on Park Road – to commemorate Larkin's contribution to trade unionism and the Labour movement. Alongside them were representatives from various trade unions and community groups in Merseyside. Various far-right groups had urged people to form a counter-demonstration, which at times tried to stop the march using sit down protests. About 25 people were arrested along the route, as each side exchanged abuse. March concluded with a rally at the Metropolitian Cathedral steps.
